Here's another character from our trip to the Texas Renaissance Festival on Saturday before last. My formula for this one was "Interesting Face" + "Interesting Costume" = "Interesting Photo" (hopefully)! :-)
Title: "Another RenFest Warrior"
Photo data: 1/50s f/3.5 at 50.0mm iso125
Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Canon 50mm f/1.4 prime
Post-processing: Adobe Camera Raw > Photoshop CS3 > Topaz Adjust plugin

This was the cohort to the guy with the sharp teeth. They were both very vocal and animated. They seemed to enjoy themselves and took to their roles quite easily.
Nice exposure and framing on his face. The bright green object near his right ear does distract me a little. It was difficult keeping all those colorful things from the background when shooting closeups.
Nice capture and the flash rig on your extension pole really did a good job with the lighting.
I like the how close you are to this guy and the angle of his face. That green area would be very easy to clone away, and it would make the background more simple, otherwise I like the background a lot and the lines seem to echo his mask! Nice lighting too!
Thanks Doug, Larry, and Cindi!
I see now (too late) that it would have been a better photo without that green spot. It's usually part of my post-processing to specifically seek out and deal with any "high contrast distractors" but somehow I obviously missed that step on this one!
Cheers!

This is one is all about his stare. Choosing to get close and personal was a great decision. You captured his expression very well.
Thanks Patrick!
The jury's still out but overall I think I like my results this year using the 50mm over last year using the 100-400mm. I think getting closer to my subjects helped me connect in a way that just was not possible while using the longer lens. We'll see.
Cheers!
Barry
