#568. Tanker Fisherman

Taken last Friday at Seabrook, Texas. This is before the fireworks display held in conjunction with the Rock the Dock event sponsored by the Kemah Boardwalk. The Houston Ship Channel runs through the background and you can see some of the ship traffic there.

#567. Rock the Dock Fireworks #2

This was near the beginning of the grand finale last Friday night as Bay Area Photo Club members photographed fireworks at the Rock the Dock event on the Kemah Boardwalk. I took the photo from the Seabrook side of Galveston Bay.

#566. Rock the Dock Fireworks #1

Last night the Bay Area Photo Club took a field trip down to Seabrook to photograph fireworks. Eighteen club members participated and we all received valuable tips from Mark Westerman to improve their firework photography. This display was part of the Rock the Dock event held at the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas. The fireworks were launched from a barge in Galveston Bay between Kemah and Seabrook.

#565. Under Umbrella

Taken this past weekend early in the morning on Galveston's East Beach. Maybe not the greatest photo ever but I like the mood of it and it takes me back to that place and time.

#563. Tea Cup House

Taken yesterday on Galveston Island near Galveston Island State Park. I couldn't tell if anyone still actually lives in it or not, but I hope so! I love that someone had an idea for something radically different in a home and then actually executed it!

#562. Wild Ride

Taken this past weekend on the Galveston seawall. You and a friend sit in a chair latched to the ground while bungee cords are pulled tight. Then the latch is released and you are thrown, basically out of control, 100' in the air. Sheer acceleration followed by abrupt bouncing and spinning. And it's higher than it looks! I only watched! :-)

#561. Fat Boys Bait

While in Galveston on Sunday I wandered over to Fat Boys Bait and took a few snaps. This is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image, courtesy of Photomatix Pro, subsequently converted to Black and White in Photoshop. The shot is busy with lots of distractions in the form of boats, automobiles, telephone lines, etc, but but I find I like it nonetheless. If you've ever been to a bait house on a fair-weather weekend morning you already know it can be a little chaotic at times anyway. :-)

#560. Seawall Trailers

Taken this morning on the Seawall in Galveston, Texas. The tiny travel trailer hitched to the tiny Volkswagen Bug caught my eye. Once I looked through my camera's viewfinder I really liked this composition that included the concession trailer and beautiful morning sky.

#559. Bicycle Pump #2

Taken last Saturday on Galveston's East Beach. Here was another sand castle building team's take on a bicycle powered pump used to move water to the "construction site". I apologize to you photography purists for the crooked horizon; for some reason it just doesn't bother me. :-)

#558. Training Day

This was one of the images I presented at our Bay Area Photo Club meeting tonight. I entered this photo for the assignment which was "Humorous". I made a not so subtle editorial statement with the photo (all in good fun of course) but to their credit the judges gave the photo a Gold Award!

#557. Bicycle Powered Pump

I went down to Galveston on Saturday to check out the sand castle building contest taking place on East Beach. It was really interesting to see how seriously some of the participants are and to observe some of the different ways they solve the various logistics problems. One big logistical problem is having enough water on hand to mix with the sand so that it sticks together and then to keep it moist so that it doesn't dry out and crumble.
