I went down to Galveston on Saturday to check out the sand castle building contest taking place on East Beach. It was really interesting to see how seriously some of the participants are and to observe some of the different ways they solve the various logistics problems. One big logistical problem is having enough water on hand to mix with the sand so that it sticks together and then to keep it moist so that it doesn't dry out and crumble.

This would get my attention. It looks like something that would be used in a 3rd world country to move water. I think including people in the background that seem totally unaware of this unusual pumping station adds to its uniqueness. Good job.
Now that is A pump! Nice capture. Would it be ok to use your picture to show the guys at work?
Interesting! This may be a dumb question, but does it need a person pedaling the bike to pump the water? And shouldn't the blue hose be attached somehow, for water to flow? It looks tied to the handlebars...
Thanks Patrick, David, and Cindi!
David - Sure! Show 'em to anyone you want! I wouldn't put them on the Internet if I was trying to hide them! :-)
Cindi - You are correct! This wasn't quite ready for use at the time I took the photo.
Cheers!
Barry
