Emma and Sophia

Another shot from Thanksgiving. I'm not sure exactly how this particular photo was lit but most of the day I was using my Canon 430EX flash on camera and bounced from the ceiling.

Title: "Emma and Sophia"

Shot data: 1/60s f/5.0 at 55.0mm iso400
Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Adobe Camera Raw > Photoshop CS3 > Topaz Adjust plugin

Great sharpness, and I really like the color combination you have going here - the purple and gold. Or maybe it's because those are the colors of my alma mater - Ball High in Galveston. At any rate, a really nice casual portrait.

Awesome portrait Barry. The colors definitely work for me and I did not go to Ball High. White balance looks nice on Emma. I'm guessing the little one is somewhat darker skinned and shows slightly warmer tones in her face as a result. Great job on getting it right.

Great shot! Nice colors throughout, and a great background.

Gorgeous shot of Emma! She has really grown up over the past couple of years, and could have modeling in her future, don't you think? I like her expression here, sort of playfully questioning, and the 3/4ths angle of her face. And as the others have said, the colors work so well together. What post processing did you use?

Thanks Steve, Doug, Larry and Cindi!

Everything about this shot was serendipity. I didn't put them in front of this background or tell them how to pose and of course they were wearing what they were wearing. My contribution to the photo, besides pressing the shutter, was in post-processing. I scaled and cloned the door they were standing in front of so that it filled the entire background. Then I used Topaz Adjust with the Portrait Smooth preset and applied a layer mask so I could block the effect from the hair in order to allow detail there.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Cheers!
Barry

The color combination of what the two girls and the background in great. The background really sets your subjects off. I also like the contrast in the pose of the two girls--it really shows the difference between a little girl and young lady.

Really nice work.
