Columbus Deadwood

We went up to Wimberley this weekend for my in-law's 50th wedding anniversary. On the way up my wife spotted this old tree in the middle of a pasture in Columbus, Texas. It's one of those subjects that no self-respecting photographer can pass up! :-)

Title: "Columbus Deadwood"

Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Photomatix Pro to combine three hand held images (-2, 0, +2) into one HDR photo > Photoshop CS3 > Topaz Adjust plugin > Nik Viveza plugin

Nice shot Barry. Really nice sky and great contrast between the sky and the tree.

I see that both the Armer brothers know how to drop a sky into their photograph.

JUST KIDDING!

You are absolutely right. No self-respecting photographer could pass-up the old dead tree with a sky like that as the background. Good framing and good post processing.

This is really nice Barry. That is some fantastic sky behind the tree, the clouds almost follow the shape of the branches. I see these dead trees also when driving back and forth to Burnet but have never had one close enough or with uncluttered backgrounds. The only thing missing is a turkey vulture!

Nice light on the tree and love the backdrop of the cloudy sky. Good example of a lone weathered tree.

Thanks Larry, Patrick, Cindi and Doug!

I spent quite a while post-processing this one (probably too long) so I'm glad the effort seems to have paid off!

Cheers!
Barry

I "like" pictures of dead wood. Maybe great photographers travel the same roads. I have a dead tree shot schedled for later this week.
