Skidaway Island

This past Thursday (Day 13 of our NY vacation) we visited Skidaway Island in Savannah, GA. This was a very quick stop on what was otherwise mostly a travel day.

Pictures taken during vacation or travel are sometimes difficult. You have to take the shot you see whatever time you are there; but, you have a good one here. The bird image has a nice diagonal with the log, negative space in front of the bird, the eye looks sharp and the background is blurred. If you ever look for variations, check to see what you think of cropping just a bit from the top or even just a small strip from the right side.
Variations for the squirrel could be to crop a little on the right, put a little light on his tail to just hint at a sunbeam. I like the highlights on the leaves.

I think your bird is a Great Blue Heron...Steve will know for sure. I agree with Wayne, a crop down from the top would work, but it is a very nice shot with a great background. Is he missing some feathers? I also like your squirrel silhouette.

Thanks Wayne and Cindi!

Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Cindi - I didn't think the Heron was missing any feathers when I saw it in person but I do see the area where it kind of looks like that in the photo. Not sure what the deal is here. I know the bird wasn't injured because it flew off gracefully a little later.

Cheers!
