The Birds in Flatonia

Just in from a weekend road trip to Lost Maples. I'm just starting to process some shots. This was my last shot this weekend as we stopped for diesel at a filling station in Flatonia, Texas. The birds of course caught my eye and I needed to do something to make myself quit watching the total sale amount on the gas pump rolling ever higher, so I made a photo.

Title: "The Birds in Flatonia"

Shot data: 1/30s f/2.8 at 24.0mm iso800
Camera / lens: Canon 40D / Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Adobe Camera Raw > Photoshop CS3 > Topaz Adjust plugin

I see the birds; where's the painted church? Your eyes just never quit looking for something to shoot, do they?

Nice job on the exposure. I've been seeing a lot of birds wire sitting lately, even here locally.

I am so jealous, I have always wanted to go to Lost Maples...but the one time I tried I really did get lost and never made it. I really like how you used the birds to frame the...well, the gas station, and it looks great but this technique would be fantastic with a little more interesting architectural subject (sorry if you really are into gas stations). Still the silhouetted birds, the clouds, the lit up building, very nice.

Thanks Doug and Cindi!

Doug - Thanks for the heads up on the "Painted Churches" tag; I went back and corrected the last few times I incorrectly chose that particular tag from the pull-down list!

Cindi - I agree that a gas station isn't a very noble subject but when life gives you lemons you gotta try to make lemonade! :-) I really couldn't think of anything else to do with the image other than crop out the gas station entirely and I didn't like it that way when I tried it. I probably should have taken a few frames of the birds by themselves!

Cheers!
Barry

This is Texas--cloudy sky, birds on a telephone line and a gas station. Colors and composition are spot-on.

Would that be Texacana? Is that a word?

Cheers!
