Riverwalk Magnolia

This is a shot of the San Antonio Riverwalk taken on a visit there last month. Typical shots of the Riverwalk include riverside restaurants and / or one of the many bridges crossing over the river. What caught my eye here was the majestic magnolia tree framing the top portion of the image and the beautiful evening light and texture on the sidewalk in the foreground. It's nowhere near the best photo of San Antonio's main attraction (or is it second behind the Alamo?) but hopefully you will enjoy it for a minute or two.

I agree that it's about the light and texture. To me this one might be improved by using TA's "Psychedelic" preset to emphasize those two things.

And there is no way that you could crank more intensity into the palette without searing the rear o my monitor glass. It's an image which almost demands the viewer squint to both protect his eyes AND to appreciate how the colors sparkle.

I have to agree with Ted...I did squint.

Flashman to the rescue!

This would have been a great use of fill flash on the tree. I think it would have brought out the details and you could have toned down the background somewhat to make it a little more uniform lighting.

Remember and repeat after me: "Don't leave home without your flash!"
