Taken at the September 12, 2009 Homes for Our Troops event at Beaumont Ranch in Grandview, Texas. The scene in this photo is fairly representative of a lot of Texas dance halls (it even reminds me a little of the famous (by virtue of being featured in the movie Urban Cowboy) Gilleys Club located in Pasadena, Texas from 1970 to 1990).

I like this environmental portrait, you have included everything I need to convey a sense of the place. Even the almost-silhouetted dancers on the right --- they are in a great part of the image and my eye went around a time or two before I realized they were there. You caught them in a great moment with her skirt slightly flairing and both sets of boots recognizable. I like the fact that since they are so dark with little detail, they become secondary to the musicians. For only 1/40th of a second, everything appears sharp. I wish I was brave enough to attempt some live music shots, and this image makes me want to drum up some courage! What a great dance hall image that could have been taken any time over the last 35 or 40 years.
Nice job of low-light shooting, especially hand held.
Thanks Cindi and Larry!
I can't remember for sure but I probably had my camera sitting on a table when I took this shot. I don't ususally trust my hand-holding ability much below 1/60th.
Cheers!
Barry
