Last night was the Bay Area Photo Club's Honor's Night where club members submit photos to have them critiqued and scored by a panel of three judges. The assignment this month was for "Photography with a Flash". I really wanted to step out this month and do something different and have a little fun. These two photos were the result! Both photos were given Gold Awards by our distinguished panel of judges! :-)
Title: "Pod Person"
This is a piece of plastic playground equipment. I placed a Vivitar 285HV flash inside it, mounted on a Gorilla Pod, with a white shoot through umbrella and fired it with a Pocket Wizard remote flash controller.
Title: "Into the Vent"
This is the air conditioning intake vent in my house. I placed a Vivitar 285HV flash inside it, mounted on a Gorilla Pod, with a white shoot through umbrella and fired it with a Pocket Wizard remote flash controller.

Barry-
There is no doubt why you got the awards. These images are fantastic.
Great job!
I immediately thought of Willy Wonka for some reason. I think they just have that kind of feel to them.
Either way they super!
Brian
Fantastic and Fun! You totally deserved those Golds! Congrats
Cindi
Thanks Brian and Cindi!
This was so much fun to shoot. I will definitely try to do more of these set-up type portrait shoots in the future.
Cheers!

Personally, I just cannot see a gold in either shot. It looks like you only used a flash or two in both of them. Everyone knows that you need at least five flashes to get a gold. Just kidding.
Both shots have a great deal of imagination. Like both of them, but when you have access to a first class model, well, . . .
Lot's of creativity here for sure. I don't think I saw any shots similiar to these that night1
Great job Barry. I really liked the vent shot. It kind of reminded me of watching a classic horror show where you tell them "no, don't open the door!"
Congrats.

Thanks Patrick, Larry and Doug!
Patrick - It is a great advantage having unlimited availability to a top model! :-)
Doug - Excellent! Glad to hear it! That's exactly the feeling I was going for!
Cheers!

Terrific images.
Excellent job both in terms of using flash in creative ways, as well as thinking of strong visual concepts that translate the objective well for the viewer.
Awards are well deserved.
Jan
Thank you Jan!
Cheers!
