#558. Training Day

This was one of the images I presented at our Bay Area Photo Club meeting tonight. I entered this photo for the assignment which was "Humorous". I made a not so subtle editorial statement with the photo (all in good fun of course) but to their credit the judges gave the photo a Gold Award!

Title: "Training Day"

Camera / Lens: Canon 5D Mark II / Canon 24-105mm L zoom
Post-processing: Photoshop CS4 > Topaz Adjust plugin > texture from flypapertexture.blogspot.com

Good job coming up with the concept and then executing nicely.

Well done! You are a brave man, for a couple of reasons! You certainly deserved the high score for the assignment. Did you use one of the other blending modes (other than Normal) to make the texture go so well onto the white background and stay off of the new judges? I don't think I ever have such clean edges as you have here.

Thanks Larry and Cindi!

Cindi - Yes. I almost always try to use one of Photoshop's blending modes these days in order to incorporate texture into my photos. Here, since I shot the original images in front of a white sheet (witch I hit with a strobe to make sure it was really blown out), I used the "Darken" blending mode to add in the texture layer. I remember I had to do a little minor manual clean up work but nothing like what would have been necessary if I were working in "Normal" blending mode all along.

Cheers!
Barry

Nicely done. You brought the house down with this one. Besides being funny, the individual portraits are well done. Good going.
