#584. Gately Paper: Freight Office
Members of our photo club (Bay Area Photo Club) found and obtained permission to use this property owed by the Gately Paper Company in Galveston, Texas as a setting for some portrait sessions on Saturday night. I hope to have a posting of some of the portraits I took here later in the week but for now here at least is photo of the front of the building. Unfortunately I don't know the history of this building (built in 1904) but it is my understanding that Gately Papers has only occupied it for a fairly short time. This is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image made from seven exposures using Photomatix Pro.

Cool! It looks like you lit the front of the building! I think this was originally a warehouse for the Falstaff Brewery which is the abandoned building to the left --- if you go around to the brick side to the right there is a great Falstaff graphic that says Make Mine Falstaff. Unfortunately since Gately took it over this spring, they have fenced off a lot of the brick side and you cannot shoot in front of those great black loading doors but there are some red shutters up a ways from the ground that would make a great portrait background too. That building is a gold mine for urban portraits. I am looking forward to seeing your shots --- it is always so interesting for me to see the different styles and interpretations that our club members come up with.

Based on an early evaluation I think my shots of the venue turned out better than the portraits I took. Hopefully it turns out I'm wrong about that! :-)
