#595. Kemah Boats #2

Taken at sunset today at Kemah Boardwalk. My ability to occasionally get a shot like this is why I keep going back to the Kemah Boardwalk when I feel like I NEED a killer shot for my blog! :-)

Hope you like it!

Title: "Kemah Boats #2"

Camera / Lens: Canon 5D Mark II / Canon 24-105mm L zoom
Post-processing: Photomatix Pro to combine 6 exposures into one HDR (High Dynamic Range) Image > Photoshop CS4 > Topaz Adjust plugin using Photo Pop preset plus DeNoise noise reduction

Wow, this shot makes it look like there are millions of yachts and sailboats in Kemah! Talk about repeating elements. This is a wonderful composition --- I really like the way the two masts on the boats in the foreground are different heights, and that light on the pole with the flare and starburst adds so much. The sky is interesting too and the yellow and blue colors are great complements. Those boat hulls in the foreground on each side point the eye right into this image. Even the railing in the front provides a very nice edge. You aren't kidding, this IS a killer shot! Did I miss Kemah Boats #1?

Thanks Cindi!

I glad you like the shot (now I know it's not just me! :-)

"Kemah Boats #1" is actually an HDR I made in June 2007. You probably saw it at Bay Area Photo Club but it predated my blog. Maybe I'll post it tomorrow since it was my favorite shot of the boats at Kemah up until this one. :-)

I like it a lot too, especially the flare. What about cropping the bottom?

I too think this is an awesome shot. The flare really adds something to take your eye to the back of the photo. I have yo agree with Steve on maybe cropping just to get rid of the OOF foreground, leaving the rail and boardwalk.

This is great! The perspective, composition, color - everything. Only question - is that sensor dust in the top right?

I wish I had gotten this nice of a shot of the boats at Kemah. I lived 4 miles away at one point...

...and by "top right," I meant "top left!"

Thanks Steve, Doug and Joshua!

Glad you like it! I did try a version with some cropped off of the bottom and it was indeed an improvement. Thanks for the suggestion!

Joshua - Good eye! I don't always remember to take the time to do a thorough search for dreaded dust spots so I missed these; thanks for pointing them out to me!
