Old Glory Ranch

While in Wimberley, Texas a couple of weekends ago we drove out to Old Glory Ranch and I took this photo of the Chapel there. It really is a beautiful structure in a beautiful setting! They even have a tepee and a life sized painted fiberglass cow! What else could one ask for? :-)

Title: "Old Glory Ranch"

Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Lens 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Photoshop CS3 > Duplicate Background Layer > Topaz Adjust plugin "Dramatic" preset > Merge Visible to New Layer > High Pass Sharpening > Merge Visible to New Layer > Nik Viveza plugin to increase brightness and saturation of the grass in the foreground > Levels Adjustment Layer to set Black point

Very cool image. Like what the HDR did here.

Only two suggestions: The image is very heavy on the left, a bit off balance to me visually. And the sky looks really stormy which seems at a disconnect with the very peaceful scene. Might try to take some contrast out of the sky to tone it down.

Hello Jan!

Thanks for your comments. I'll have to play around with it in Photoshop and see if I can successfully implement your suggestion. It could also be that I through the image out of balance by virtue of the processing I did on the foreground (making it brighter).

Cheers!

Nice shot and very good post processing. I like the way that you seemed to treat the sky and the rest of the scene differently in the post processing. The color combination is outstanding.

This is breathtaking. I work at Old Glory Ranch, and I would love to obtain a copy of this as a gift for the owner. Please feel free to contact me via the website. I love this perspective! -Kellye
