#545. American Beauty

I've had the idea to create an "American Beauty" style image for a while and I finally got around to doing it last night. The basic components for this type of glamour shot are a white background, some high key lighting, some rose petals, and, oh yes, a sexy model! Enjoy! :-)

Title: "American Beauty"

Camera / Lens: Canon 5D Mark II / Canon 24/105mm L zoom
Post-processing: Adobe Camera Raw > Photoshop CS4 > Red Paw Media Beautifier
Lights: Alien Bee 800 with large softbox to camera left as key, Alien Bee 800 with 20% Grid to camera right for fill, Alien Bee 400 with 7" reflector as a background light

Well done. Off your typical path, but very cool concept, and it definitely works. It's an eye catching image because of the obvious tensions / unexpected twist in it.

I noticed in your details that you shot this with ABs. An upgrade from your speedlights?

Thanks Jan!

Good to hear from you as always!

I bought a set of four AB's (1-1600, 2-800, 1-400) a couple months ago to give me a little more versatility in my studio (and by studio I mean Living Room :-) For modifiers I got a set of grids, a large softbox and some assorted umbrellas. I ordered one of their parabolic light modifiers too but it is still on back order. Hopefully I'll figure out how to use everything correctly one day!

Cheers!

how did you get the supreme court nominee to pose for you ?

Nice shot Barry. Was this a studio shot? Or did you have to travel to the Shire to find a Hobbit to model for you?

Thanks Anon and Larry!

Not a Supreme or a Hobbit, just me! :-)

I thinks this should be hanging in a New York gallery...they would pay plenty. Real nice peddles:-)

One question, when is the glamourous model going to show up for the shoot? Way to push the boundaries. I must admit, I like your photo a lot more than the movie.

Thanks David and Patrick!

Patrick - I don't know, but if one does show up I'll be ready! :-)

Cheers!
