Houston Zoo #2

Another shot taken on the Bay Area Photo Club's outing to the Houston Zoo this past Saturday.

Title: "You Talking to Me?"

Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Photoshop CS3 > Duplicate Background Layer > High Pass Sharpening in Hard Light blending mode > Merge Visible to New Layer in Multiply blending mode to increase contrast with layer mask to protect the eyes > Merge Visible to New Layer > Duplicate Layer > Blur Lens Blur to soften the image with mask to protect the face > Add New Layer and paint with black in multiply blending mode for custom vignette and to tone down some high contrast distractions

Really good framing of your subject. No matter where you start looking, you wind your way towards his face. I think the little bit of green in his mouth adds so much to the overall effect of the image. Good job, again.

It's a nice shot but I think the background is distracting. Looks to me like you could crop in about 50% and still have a great shot. Only problem would be you would loose the hands and even in soft focus they add to the picture.

I don't think the background is a problem. The main focus of the shot is so well done that it's a non-issue for me.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't crop into the photo to see what he gets. I think it's a valid point to at least try that viewpoint.
