Shanty Tubes Parking

Here's another shot from my Shanty Tubes visit this past weekend in Canyon Lake, Texas. As with to the image I posted of the Guadalupe River below, I like both versions of this image. I don't necessarily think either one is "correct", they are just different. The pano version places more emphasis on the main subjects but at the expense of losing some great shadows, textures and details in the parking lot and sky.

Title: "Shanty Tubes Parking"

Camera / Lens: Canon 40D / Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 zoom
Post-processing: Photomatix Pro to combine three handheld exposures (-2, 0, +2) into one HDR (High Dynamic Range) image > Photoshop CS4 > Topaz Adjust plugin

I like the pano better again. In this shot though I think the pano is considerably better than the standard shot. The buildings and car are very interesting and I fell like I have to look around for them in the larger shot.

Hi Barry -- just love the post processing on this shot. It helps to bring out the "shanty". Great work -- Marti

Thanks Larry and Marti!

Larry - I see your point. The wider view is closer to what I saw with my own eyes, which is what drew me into this place, and that bias may be why I like it as much as the pano crop. Only I would have that bias I suppose because I was the only one there.

Marti - Thank you Marti! That means a lot coming from someone who does great work everyday!

Cheers!
Barry

While I agree with you about all the shadow play within the photo, I feel the pano version narrows down what the real subject of the photo is about.

Nice processing here Barry.

My favorite is the pano.

My only suggestion is that you might consider cloning out the power lines.

Very nice HDR work, Barry.

Thanks Doug and Charlie!

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Charlie - I know you're right but sometimes I feel like I could spend my entire life on nothing but cloning out power lines! Damn them! :-)

Cheers!
